Once the analysis is completed, you simply display the memory usage of all the functions (with the added decorator) on a single plot. You immediately spot how fast the memory is being used by each function and whether it grows constantly, which is an indication of memory leak. This profiler helps you spot memory leak issues very quickly and cleanly.

As far as my knowledge goes, we have never used memory debugging and garbage collection software, on the Signalling Electronic Interlocking memory. I have a suspicion that these type of software will interfere with the memory integrity software, that runs continuously on the EI memory, to ensure the safety level of SIL4 Cenelec standard of probabilty 1X10E-8 to 1X10E-9, of the 'Safety Functions' not detecting wrong-side failures and negating them. These software will influance SIL4 safety level and is therefore not acceptable in Signalling Electronic Interlockings. The EI programs are also not massive and must produce less Garbage if any.

Any well written test strategy will include not only exercising known paths but will also include stress testing. This is different than testing under load. Try to break the system; try to overload the system; include in the test strategy the paths that a developer did not plan to execute but are somehow available to a user.

I have had good results with the Erlang based tsung in addition to jmeter. I’ve also used third party services to generate real browser load when profiling memory on web apps.

Static code analysis, tools can be helpful here also. Having a tool that analyzes your source code from a security standpoint will help uncover memory and resource optimization pitfalls in your code.
