What are the most effective ways to create a safe and open environment for coaching conversations?

To create a collaborative environment in coaching, start by establishing open communication where all ideas and opinions are valued. Set goals that encourage teamwork, and create opportunities for mutual learning, allowing clients or team members to learn from each other. Recognize and utilize individual strengths, assigning roles that highlight each person's unique skills. Build a culture of trust and respect, ensuring everyone feels heard and valued. Foster accountability for both individual tasks and the team's overall success. Utilize collaborative tools like digital workspaces and communication platforms. Lead by example, demonstrating collaborative behavior, and create a supportive, non-judgmental coaching environment.

En cualquier proceso de desarrollo es necesario partir del interés real por trabajar como un equipo. La voluntariedad y la aceptación debe ser de las primeras premisa para iniciar cualquier proceso de coaching, mentoria o terapia. Actualmente en los procesos que realizo en empresa pongo una cláusula de aceptación de las partes, tras dos sesiones evaluamos que ambos nos sentimos comprometidos para trabajar juntos porque hemos creado la " atmósfera" adecuada para abordar un proceso de cambio juntos. Y si ambos decimos sí, el proceso continúa, si no no tendría sentido. Y previa al inicio del proceso, tenemos una entrevista para ver si "nos sentimos" con los mínimos establecidos para iniciar el proceso.

All great points. In my experience though, rapport is the key ingredient. I’m building rapport, you create connection and safety. You show yourself as meeting them where they are at. This goes beyond coaching too in the sense of good leadership practice. I look back to the best leaders I’ve worked for, and a standout element of their style was rapport and connection

Hace a?os incorpore una fórmula en sesiones de desarrollo que es revisar las expectativas y los pasos dados en cada inicio de sesión. Y al finalizar de nuevo revisarlo. La transparencia es tan importante como manejar con cuidado los acuerdos de confidencialidad. Recuerdo casos en los que algunos profesionales no aclaran que pueden o no compartir fuera de las sesiones. Este punto es especialmente sensible cuando hablamos de un coaching de empresa. Y hay que abordar el tema tanto con la empresa que pide informes como con quién recibe las sesiones para que todos acuerden qué se podrá o no compartir.

Actualmente estoy implicada en procesos de desarrollo que dan un paso más al incorporar: 1. Consultoría 2. Coaching 3. Mentoria y 4. Psicología. Cuando emergen miedos y grandes bloqueos un consejo o una pregunta puede no ser suficiente y la psicología nos permite adentrarnos y provocar cambios significativos y profundos. Cuando un cliente tiene un asunto de gran envergadura entre manos y aún no ha desarrollado todas las habilidades y necesita dar un paso, un consejo le ayuda a explorar con una ejecución novedosa para él o ella. Es maravilloso ver que por fin, algunas empresas valoran la salud mental lo suficiente como para apreciar procesos completos de cambio integrando lo mejor de casa disciplina.

We used to believe that in-person coaching was the 'best' type of coaching, where coach and coachee could form a personal connection and where the coach could tune in to non-verbal cues. However often the coaching environment was compromised, especially if in a public space, and the coachee would often be squeezing in the session amongst other stressful activities such as business meetings. Studies now show virtual coaching can be just as effective, with the intimacy of a private conversation when the coachee is in the safety of their own home providing a new dynamic for the coaching relationship. Look for the right time and space for the coachee to be in the right mindset for powerful and transformational thinking.

It is really helpful to ‘design your alliance’ with your coachee. Decide together how they want to be coached, how they want you to show up and what accountability will look like. That way they are in complete control and it creates a wonderfully safe space for them to be coached because it is anchored in trust. It is also essential to hold complete confidentiality so they can speak freely.
