What are the most effective ways to close the skills gap with vocational education?

I come from India, a country where degree driven education has dominated the education ecosystem since ages. However this is changing now as the new generation manpower is not being hired just on the basis of a degree but on the skillset they have and the value they bring to a workplace. I feel there is a need to Align vocational education curricula with industry standards and certifications. Ensure that vocational programs cover relevant technical skills, emerging technologies, and industry-specific knowledge to prepare students for entry-level positions in their chosen field.

I've been working in the Indian skill development space for more than 10 years now. My experience tells me that the first step to close the skills gap is to be able to identify the skill-sets you might require to land your dream job. Then, you can drill down the skills where you lag the most. These skills can then be learnt through 2 major channels- 1. Virtually through MOOCs from platforms like Skill India Digital and UDEMY. 2. Physically, by joining Vocational centres, run by several well known CSRs and NGOs in various cities in India. Both of the above will give you industry recognized certificates that will further help you land an aligned job in a industry of your choice.
