What are the most effective ways to build long-term relationships with coachees?

Hay varios factores importantes que son necesarios para crear el vínculo con el cliente. Muchos de estos factores deben quedar reflejados en el acuerdo que se firma antes de empezar el proceso de coaching, donde debe aparecer el compromiso de confidencialidad que sólo se romperá en caso de que haya riesgos que atenten contra la integridad física o psicológica del propio cliente o de otras personas. Dejar claro que las sesiones son espacios donde el cliente puede hablar de lo que considere que sea lo mejor para conseguir sus objetivos, sin ser juzgado por el coach. Es fundamental establecer un buen rapport desde el minuto uno, de forma que el cliente se sienta completamente cómodo con su coach.

In a true partnership, there is a level of back and forth challenge, debate, thought partnering, "idea sparring" and safety to test ideas and assumptions in a no judgement zone. It's not enough simply to know your clients well, it's also about being able to help clients push their growth edges and master "out of the box" thinking.

Recognize the uniqueness of each coachee and customize coaching approaches accordingly. Tailor interventions to align with the coachee's learning style, preferences, and professional context. Personalization demonstrates a genuine investment in the coachee's individual journey, enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of the coaching relationship.

Es fundamental que el coach tenga una completa flexibilidad mental de cara a adaptarse a sus clientes. También es muy importante que posea muchas técnicas y herramientas para que pueda aplicarlas de manera más concreta y personalizada a cada uno de sus clientes. Es fundamental esta apertura para no caer en lo que se conoce como “el martillo de Maslow”, que significa que si sólo tienes un martillo lo utilizarás para todo. O lo que es lo mismo, que si sólo tienes una herramienta la utilizarás para resolver todos los problemas.

We can boost our communication success with different types of coachees with the following steps: a) Observe: No judgment on the specific situation. b) Identify a feeling: what did you feel when this happened? c) Need or desire: to express and reflect on what they want to happen. d) Request: How can they ask for a change of the situation or a change of outcome?

Communication is highly critical in strengthen relationship between a coach and coachee; and to make it work effectively for both parties. Having regular meeting intervals to discuss openly about progress, challenges, achievements, support needed and next steps is a good way to help enhance and add value into the relationship. The medium of communication should be one that would effectively work for both parties.

A willingness to adapt based on feedback demonstrates a commitment to the coachee's growth.

Let the coachee decide if long term relationship is at all what he or she wants and needs. The start and the end of a coaching relationship should happen in alignment, as partners.
