Repetition is key when young children are learning English, there is no limit to how many times they will want to do 'Head, shoulders, knees & toes' once they've learnt it and it can be sung faster and faster! Simon Says works well too, as long as you guide them in the beginning and then let the older children take the place of the teacher - they LOVE giving instructions! Once the vocabulary has been taught, I often use bingo (the picture version for very young learners), hangman, memory (match pairs or What's missing?) to reinforce. The act of playing really helps to remove the stress of learning. I also find their reading skills improve dramatically if you've introduced the vocabulary by means of a song first.

Repetition, repetition, repetition.. I was surprised by how much you can (and need) to repeat with very young learners. I have a class once a week, and they also review the lessons with their teacher mid-week, but the fact that such young learners are exposed to a new language, repetition is key and you shouldn't be afraid of 'repeating too much'. They need to be exposed as much as possible to this new language, they need to listen & speak as much as possible (reading + writing can come much later!). Don't do a section of new vocabulary and after a few weeks think 'It's learnt, next!' - you will need to go back over this vocabulary multiple times in the year, to check they still know the words/phrases + can still pronounce them.
