By the article's title I would assume that we would operate the system through uncertainty, hence evolution and not BAU. The architectural choices that would favor fast adaptation to the unexpected are super useful and important. Several assumptions could be made about things that could change during evolution cycles, in terms of performance requirements, scale, and so on. For example, if future scale is unpredictable - choose solutions that would scale well (both in capacity to deliver work and from the manageability perspective, so you'll not be limited by the human factor shortage). In my experience, that' s almost never considered at the beginning. That would increase the project's budget and might make the business case not fly :-)

Before going that far, it is best to consider whether there are better tradeoffs you can make which rely primarily on persistent storage, aka hard drives space. Why? Mostly because these methods are not only cheaper but often easy to implement. CDNs and reverse proxies can often boost performance without asking much from your team. When you do have to implement a solution, try to identify which features and aspects can be sanely handled client-side.
