What resources and support do you need? How will your goals align with your vision and values? When do you expect to complete your goals?

What has helped the leaders I coach is utilizing SWOT analysis as a way to determine what SMART goals will best suit the leaders desired outcome. I believe success is cyclical so while a linear approach can be helpful to get started initially, it is beneficial to understand how to create a self-leadership success cycle!

Another strategy to keep leaders focused on their strategic vision is to help them create a vision board. A vision board is a visual representation of their vision, using images, words, symbols, or colors that resonate with them. A vision board can help leaders tap into their creativity, emotions, and intuition, and reinforce their motivation and commitment. You can coach leaders to create their own vision board, using any format or medium they prefer, such as paper, digital, or collage. You can also encourage them to display their vision board somewhere they can see it often, such as their office, home, or computer.

One thing I found helpful when coaching leaders is to celebrate the micro-wins that bring them closer to their desired outcome. I like to ask what went right when it is easier to focus on what went wrong. My aim to help leaders see how they can turn an obstacle to an opportunity. I want to encourage resilience over rumination and possibilities over problems. My hope is that they reflect on the results they have gained so far and are motivated to keep going despite the challenges that are present. We can recognize a challenge exists without dwelling on the negative and be more solution oriented.

What comes to mind with this point is the importance of raising and maintaining belief. The role of a leader is ever evolving - it requires iterations that can very easily become a point of frustration (i.e., the repetitive process of try, fail, adjust). Through building and maintaining belief, leaders can better equip their teams to thrive and progress during the "low" periods of any endeavour. Focusing on achievements and affirmations can empower a team to run in unison towards their desired goals.

Seeking feedback and input can help leaders gain different perspectives, insights, and ideas, validate and improve their vision, and build trust and engagement with their stakeholders. You can use coaching questions to help leaders seek feedback and input, such as: What are the benefits and risks of your vision? Most of our decisions, actions and results are made internally first. Mindfulness is so important to be aware of. The practices listed also cover resilience as well. Rest is needed to create a synergy cycle of success. Leaders must consciously value their well-being in all facets. Mindfulness can support that endeavor.

You can use coaching questions to help leaders revisit and revise their vision, such as: What has changed since you created your vision? The corporate vision serves as the compass that steers the organization's direction, guiding decision-making, and inspiring employees to work towards a common goal. In today's rapidly changing business landscape, it's essential for corporate leaders to regularly reassess and refine the vision to ensure it's aligned with the evolving needs of the market, customers, and the organization itself. Leaders should take a step back to evaluate whether the current trajectory serves the organization's long-term goals and if it continues to resonate with both internal and external stakeholders.

Continuously getting them to stand back and see the bigger picture or consider what is coming. If they can continuously spend some time planning and preparing for the next big challenge rather than firefighting, it usually helps

As a leader who's zone of genius IS strategic vision and serves other leaders in career transition, the best way to obtain success is through self-leadership. Success IS cyclical. When we reach our fitness goals, we don't just stop afterwards (or at least, we shouldn't). We continue to do what we must to maintain our improved physique. The path to being successful in leadership is no different.
