Being aware of your own and others' conflict styles is the first step to improving your conflict skills, but you need to practice and develop your ability to use different styles effectively and appropriately. To do this, it's important to assess your strengths and weaknesses in regards to different conflict styles, expand your repertoire by learning and applying unfamiliar styles, seek feedback and support from trusted people, and reflect and learn from conflict experiences. For example, consider the benefits and costs of using each style, identify situations that require different styles, develop the skills needed for each style, get constructive feedback from trusted people, and reflect on successes and challenges when using different styles. By doing these things, you can become better at managing conflicts.
