What are the most effective coaching evaluation methods for your organization?

Defining your coaching objective is like setting a clear destination for a journey. It helps outline the purpose and goals of the coaching process. Whether you aim to enhance specific skills, overcome challenges, or achieve personal and professional growth, a well-defined coaching objective serves as the roadmap. Just as a traveler plans their route, a clear coaching objective guides both the coach and the coachee toward success, ensuring that the coaching journey is focused, purposeful, and aligned with the desired outcomes

Es muy crucial que antes de iniciar cualquier proceso de coaching se tome el tiempo que sea necesario para definir los objetivos con todos los involucrados y, por su puesto, el más importante, el coachee. Considero que es aquí, en la definición de los objetivos, del acuerdo, o como lo queramos llamar, se da paso al éxito o no del proceso en si del coaching, no hay otra, así lo considero.

It's a non-negotiable that we must first set clear objectives. These should be SMART to ensure they're practical and impactful. We musn't forget to align these goals with org strategy, vision, and values. Regardless of what they may be, having well-defined objectives is key to measuring success and driving meaningful progress in our coaching efforts.

In my experience, the objective should be most often defined by the client. The client has to be in the driver's seat while I, the coach, am in the passenger seat helping them navigate the obstacles and establish the destination.

El coaching es un proceso de aprendizaje en busqueda de resultados que hasta el momento no se han dado por cualquier motivo que fuera. Al ser un proceso de aprendizaje, de auto aprendizaje, es importante que se tengan criterios coherentes de evaluación que permita que el coachee se comprometa y pueda enfocarse en el proceso. Pero más allá de una herramienta es que finalmente los resultados se vayan obteniendo en función a lo realista de los objetivos trazados.

From my personal experience with my mentees, I always start with a test / assessment in order to see if my mentees have understood my program after that I will interview and observe them in order to see how they put all these in practice. It is possible to have technical skills but not been able to resolve concrete issues with those skills. So it is important to mix those steps within a period of time in order to ensure that your coaching program was acquired by your mentees.

The initial transformative measure involves refraining from labeling those overseeing teams as mere "Managers," but rather as "Super Coaches" and "Co-Super Coaches." In today’s rapidly changing world, most Leaders get that the coming years are going to be full of uncertainty. Where they will face challenges with complexity and have to perform under pressure. The coach may or may not be an expert at the topic, where the coachee needs help or guidance. In either case they never give any solution. Coaching relies on various questioning techniques, feedback, and encouragement to guide the coachee in self deriving of solutions setting actionable goals, and refining their skills. In a crude example It’s like throwing a toddler into the swimming pool and let them re-discover the art floating/ swimming when they were in the womb.

I've always gravitated to strength-based coaching and situational leadership. People are people, not machines. They grow, they change, they recede, all depending on motivation and skill. In general, resist the temptation to view people as inputs and outputs. There is no business guru out there who has a system to completely predict and control human behavior. That's why you don't see more day trading stock millionaires.
