During my experience filming, I've encountered equipment failures that have presented significant challenges. Another incident was the sound equipment, resulting in poor audio quality that required extensive post-production editing to salvage. One of the most common problems I see is data handling. When I first started it was mainly tape based. Then we moved into an era of data. Making sure you have adequate storage on sight (and backups) to offload to is paramount. This usually the responsibility of a D.I.T (digital imaging technician). Make sure you stop the camera rolling between takes. And make sure you have an adequate number of cards with larger file size accommodation. The codec (compressor decompressor) you are shooting in will have an effect on storage size. A file format like H264 will have a much smaller size than prores HQ for example. So shoot according to your final output requirements.

Whenever unexpected script changes occur, I've developed a systematic approach to handle them efficiently. I communicate immediately with the production team to understand the nature and extent of the modifications. Then, work closely with the scriptwriters and directors to integrate the changes into the autocue seamlessly. Attention to detail is essential so you get everything. It also ensures the talent is well-prepared and comfortable with the new material.

I do agree with the above that Script changes, especially last-minute ones, can disrupt the flow of a production. To handle this, maintain open and constant communication with the scriptwriter and the client. Being adaptable and having a flexible mindset helps. It's also beneficial to understand the core message of the content, so you can quickly adjust and still capture the essence of the project despite changes.

Most of the time, Team conflict arise due to stress, creative disagreements, or miscommunication. As a professional, fostering a collaborative environment is key. Encourage open communication, respect all opinions, and mediate disputes impartially. Establish clear roles and responsibilities from the start to avoid overlaps and misunderstandings. Remember, a positive attitude and effective leadership often set the tone for team dynamics.

Many clients would like to think that they know & understand the media production business when it's obvious to us that they don't, which can drastically affect how your work with them goes. Sometimes you have to educate the client along the way, especially as it pertains to all the work that it takes to get high-quality, professional-level video production accomplished. I had a network client who was constantly upset about how much they had to pay for our crews to shoot on broadcast cameras. When you're working as a freelancer for a corporate or broadcast client, they have the big legal departments that can (and will) make your head spin when you're trying to get through the maze of legalese in a contract. Over time, hopefully, you will have gathered more experience in understanding what's important to stand up for in your contracts, but that doesn't mean you won't get "fooled" every once in a while.
