This is quite a chicken and egg situation. Yet, it definitely requires attention. You can’t hire the best people if they aren’t much aware of your brand. While I understand a startup won’t have an existing brand, it can still be made by making the best use of available resources. Personal references is what I go for. The person referring knows the company and thus would be an ambassador to my brand. You can also make your presence felt online, industry forums etc. These will help you get some bright minds. Once you do, treat them well and make a culture which assures them that they too can refer their friends. Start that cycle and soon you have a lot of good people around you.
