In order to have improvements, you have to check where you are now. Have a regular monitoring on your performance, use a tool that provide best practice on process and dashboards may help. Once you have your KPI agreed and established, do regular monitoring, then you can start have some improvements based on where you are, where is your target and which area you can improve.

Outside of an active initiative or project, here are some ways I like to keep processes current so there's less time wasted when it's time to get started: + Establish a regular cadence for updates - a little verification work here and there is easier to sell + Create a change management process that reflects the current state, often times it's an unattainable wish-list process + Encourage managers to designate two team members (for redundancy) to be available and mindful of keeping their procedures, stands, and process maps up to date.
In practice, I often find that although people want to introduce ITIL processes, they are rarely prepared for the introduction. Important information on the process and infrastructure services operated is often missing. Dependencies between the services often still need to be determined. Another challenge is the provision of this information. After all, the information must somehow be provided in a central tool and made accessible to various roles.
