What are the most common goals for library services professionals?

In my experience one of the most common goals we all share in library service is connecting people with information no matter what their income level or education, and ensuring that the library is a place accessible to everyone. Access is often threatened and we take this part of the job seriously. I work in youth services and my coworkers are constantly creating programs that innovate and include all kids as much as possible. Making the library a welcome place to be is at the top of our list and it makes me proud to go to work each day!

The main way to guarantee library user satisfaction is by offering them access to a diversity of content that is understandable and capable of satisfying their informational needs. Furthermore, it is important that he finds a professional in the librarian capable of listening to him, guiding him and resolving his doubts.

The main objective of information literacy is to give users the necessary knowledge so that they can manipulate tools that help them find and use the information they need for the purposes they desire.

Community engagement is the must important goal for the library services professional who is in a library occupation where they want to remain and develop a long, satisfying career. This means you are committing to a community (it’s not just about salary or prestige), because you have a community you want to serve. When you have that community as your compass, all the other goals come into focus.

Community engagement is important because it helps with the longevity of library programs. Without community engagement programs will no longer exist and there will be less traffic in the library. It is important to have programs that your community needs and or wants so that community numbers have a reason to visit your library. The more patrons you have engaging in library programs and visiting your library, the more likely it is for you to find funding or donations for those programs.

Involvement with the community must be one of the main objectives of the librarian professional, who must be attentive to the needs of his audience, developing the collection, services and events that satisfy these needs and bring people closer to the institution.

La participación de la comunidad en las bibliotecas es esencial para su relevancia y éxito. Establecer relaciones sólidas con organizaciones locales, escuelas, empresas y otros grupos comunitarios para colaborar en programas y eventos que satisfagan las necesidades e intereses de la comunidad.

As a librarian, it’s hard to be ignorant to the reality that you don’t know everything! Professional development is so important to not only gain new knowledge and to build your personal skill set, but to be aware of what others are working on and to expose yourself to new areas and professionals of your field. Librarianship and information institutions are so diverse and doing so many amazing things, that through these professional development opportunities, it’s almost impossible not to rediscover the spark that brought you to libraries in the first place. At the very least, these opportunities keep you up-to-date in important practices and standards, but they really are an excellent way to rejuvenate your motivation towards your career!

Creativity and innovation does not just apply to solving problems and overcoming challenges. It can be used as part of programs and displays. These are ways to show off your creativity, imagination, and artistic skills that are both short term and long run. And the programs and displays can inspire patrons to engage in creativity and innovation too- not to mention increase attendance and use of library resources.

Every library's main purpose is to create a project plan to ensure user engagement, expand access to library resources, and deliver digital and information literacy initiatives to the university community. As a growing organism, gathering and adopting input from these objectives might be a smart technique for enhancing library service delivery.

In my experience as a school librarian, I mainly focus on helping patrons enjoy reading, providing lots of different books and resources, supporting schoolwork, and making the library a friendly place for everyone. I also try to keep up with technology to make digital stuff better and help people understand information.
