It's not about a lack of clear goals its about setting unrealistic expectations! It's easy to get excited and set ambitious goals as a new leader, but be mindful of setting unrealistic expectations. Unrealistic goals can demotivate your team and lead to burnout. Instead, set achievable and measurable goals that align with your team's capabilities and resources.

New leaders lack clarity on their goals. They consider digital marketing as the secondary option for business. While digital marketing should be the priority. They are unware of how digital works to spread voice They merely think posting works as marketing, whereas digital marketing is far more than this. You can get tons of business with the digital marketing strategies if done right.

For effective digital marketing strategy: Set Clear Goals: Align them with business objectives and audience needs. Avoid Ambiguity: Use the SMART framework to establish specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals. This approach ensures focused, efficient, and measurable digital marketing efforts.

Besides the goal, you must clearly understand the budget and the availability of resources to accomplish the task. More important than the goal itself is to accurately convey your vision of this goal and its impact on overall sales to the management.

Once again, I reinforce the idea that working cross-functionally will strengthen any marketing strategy. Looking at possibilities outside your industry will bring greater possibilities for innovation.

In my experience across a variety of organization types and sizes, the number one mistake I see is the inability to track NET ROI across marketing channels. Systems are not in place to (or vendors which were chosen do not) support the data flow necessary to achieve this. New leaders often lack the knowledge to ask the questions to make the right decisions to allow for this process, and often find themselves in a challenging and/or costly scenario to change systems. This leads to the inability to efficiently and accurately prioritize marketing channels which provide the most bottom line impact.

One of the most overlooked, or should I say Underlooked, issues is trying to base campaign success on not enough data. A client recently asked how a particular marketing strategy was working for me, but not for them, so I asked "How many people did you send your marketing material too?" They replied that they had sent 200 flyers and had not received a single sale. I let them know that they need to send no less than 20,000 flyers before they would have enough data to decide if it was a successful campaign. Many new marketers are already expecting an ROI, long before FB has finished its 'Learning Phase'. Analytics will help curb this unrealistic expectation, but only if you use them.

With the constant involvement of digital technology and new services, many organizations easily find themselves lagging behind on their employees' skills, as it's not possible to increase or reduce org. headcount like turning a cooking stove up or down. Try to work with new forms of work force, like contractors, freelancers and agencies. At the same time let your FTEs focus on tasks that being constantly relevant to you business main objective instead of chasing after new fads from time to time. This allows your org. to react fast and test out new ideas more efficiently. Same for budget planning, 1) leave buffer and 2) review and adjust on a bi-weekly basis.
