Apart from the various inputs given by my fellow LinkedIn friends, I would like to highlight few more Mistakes/ Pitfalls that Data Center Operators do: 1. Inflexible Infrastructure- Rigid infrastructures can hinder adaptation to new technologies or changes in business strategy. Instead, we must opt for open architectures and standards that allow for easy integration of new technologies and practices. 2. Not Considering Environmental Impact- Ignoring energy efficiency and environmental considerations can lead to higher operational costs and regulatory challenges. 3. Failure to Document Processes and Changes- Inadequate documentation can lead to confusion and errors during maintenance or upgrades.

Not planning wire/cable runs for power and networking. As the equipment count grows, the challenge of running wires and cables becomes monumental. In many cases, it can interfere with being able to add new equipment or put stress on cabling resulting in outages. This situation is not limited to in-cabinet wiring, but also underfloor, or above track setups. Power circuit redundancy is critical as we know, but if you did not plan how to track and identify them, once the datacenter hardware scales up, the ability to identify and organize is something your team will dread.
