I have learned from many years facilitating large groups that it is imperative to set clear expectations from the beginning of the session. Often the expectation set are to be respectful to each other and the facilitator. Be clear what is considered distracting to the group and what is expected of them. In turn ask the group what they expect to gain giving mutal respect. Know the content and being subject matter expert will allow the facilator the confidence for open discussions that will often engage the group minimizing distractions.

This can happen when the facilitator or the participants do not give or receive feedback and evaluation on the process and outcomes of the session. Feedback and evaluation are essential for learning, improvement, and accountability, as well as for celebrating and acknowledging the achievements and contributions of the group. However, feedback and evaluation can also be challenging, sensitive, or intimidating, depending on how they are delivered and received. I have found that lack of attention towards learners is a huge challenge. 1. Ensuring we have everyone's name noted down helps. 2. Ensuring to address people by their names helps. 3. Addressing people randomly while giving examples helps. 4. Trying to interact with as many people as possible helps. 5. Ensuring that you have an extensive LNA done before the session helps.
