Even if you're a small or medium-sized organization, it is a best practice to develop an incident response process. Take into account first a definition what defines a major incident?, next what roles to you need - who will focus on resolving the issue, who will handle communication to key stakeholders?, how frequently should updates be provided? What happens after the incident is resolved, is a root cause analysis performed? Having a defined process makes incident far less stressful for those involved and leads to more rapid resolution and improved communication/satisfaction for affected users.
