Just by looking at the model you have, you'll notice there are points that don't match the rest of the contour. In some applications, such as manufacturing process validation, these can be indicative of poor surface finish. In other applications, like mapping out a coral reef, it highlights the fractal nature of the subject. However, it can also be a limitation of the technology and how it is used.
