Yes all of this can happen and is the historic result. The counterbalance is increased efficiency of distribution and rising productivity. So far new information technology solutions have not increased productivity. But AI shows great promise in this regard, automating many of the business administration tasks. This time we have to increase productivity to avoid the traps of the past. This is one of the reasons AI will be adopted quickly.

The trend of the widening wealth gap is well established. This plays out with greater divisions in society and unhappiness. Unfortunately it is human nature that we all want 15% more than we have a t the moment - no matter how rich we are. What to do? We will have to change our values in favour of getting 15% more of something else - the status in communities will have to attained through one’s contributions to society and others, more than being respected for individual wealth. This trend is underway - ..fortunately. It needs to accelerate.

Unfortunately, many wars in the past have been triggered by a fight of resources. It is a gloomy prospect with the scarcity of resources inevitable in a carbon-constrained environment. However, the remedy is a form of world government to ensure a fair allocation of resources. A lot of people are nervous of AI but it can play a role in the allocation of resources; allocating fairly across economies. The debate would be the factors in the algorithm that could be challenged in a democratic way.

One of the areas of scarcity that will develop will be car ownership. The days of 3 or 4 cars per family is over. The ballooning cost of car ownership and the very poor environmental profile of cars (including electric vehicles) makes this is a certainty. The consequence - actually a positive- is the rise of public transport. We are going to have to ride together, luckily the under 35 age group what judging by the explosive growth since 2015 (removing the effects of Covid 19 stall).
