2 Smart materials

Smart materials are materials that can alter their properties or shape in response to external stimuli, such as electric, magnetic, thermal, or mechanical signals. These materials are often utilized in structural engineering for adaptive and self-healing purposes. I agree with most of the statements and particularly with the one related with the validation of the models by means of experimental data, and from from my point of view, this do not only apply to composites. When you say that you need tu fine tune your model through empirical measurements people might think: "Well, If i have to carry out additional tests in order to validate the material selection, then, Why do I need to build FEM?". Well, the answer is that with the experimental data you can gather enough information to not only solve one specific usecase, but also to build the bases in order to characterize the material so that you have a reliable model for future simulations.
