1 Size constraints

One of the limitations of 3D printing is the size of the objects that can be printed. The size of the printed objects depends on the size of the printer and the print bed, which are often limited by the cost, space, and power requirements. Moreover, larger objects may take longer to print and require more material, which can increase the cost and the risk of errors. Some 3D printers can print large objects in segments and then assemble them, but this may compromise the structural integrity and the aesthetics of the final product.

Apart from size of the printer and print bed the type of technology used for printing also plays a vital role ,size and aesthetics are entirely depends on factors like whether it is s resin based ,powder based and thermally treated polymer based technique.Each of these processes have their own limitations in terms of Scale of Printing .

Depending on the technology used for 3D printing, you may also have to consider aspects such as thermal contraction and thermal conduction into the bed, which may cause warpage of the parts being printed. In FDM printing for instance, if you do not have a heated bed, you may have to create an adhesion layer called a skirt, brim or raft. This will further reduce the space available for your part.

On the other hand certain 3D printing methodologies can create functionally-graded materials and/or have colour transitions within the part (to show heat or stress characteristings of materials or for aesthetic purposes). Such functionality cannot be obtained by other traditional manufacturing methods.

While the article is accurate, most of what is being said can be applied to any manufacturing technology including size, complexity, material limitations, design limitations and legal/ethical issues. Most of these limitations can be effectively overcome (if not eliminated) by selection of the right process as well as the process equipment that is being used. 3D printing technology is unparalleled in its ability to provide replacement parts in remote locations rapidly, provide highly customized parts at a lower cost than most other methods and indeed provide part complexity and/or functionality that other processes could not achieve. Overall, how to wield the technology to meet your end goal is what matters.
