The main problem with CFD is the cost. If you want to run full plane calculations you need to use several CPU cores that require HPC software license. The annual of such licenses are about 50k€. In addition you need to hire a CFD expert to ensure your calculations are accurate. At the end a lot of general aviation manufacturers in light aircraft and drone industries are not able to use CFD for financial reasons. Our software "ACE of Aircraft" opens the doors to CFD for these companies by offering an affordable, accurate and easy to use software. If you know how an aircraft flies you can use it and it cost only 8k€ per year.

Tornado is an open-source MATLAB toolbox for the simulation and analysis of vortex lattice methods, particularly useful in the conceptual design phase of aircraft for assessing the lift and induced drag characteristics. Tornado was utilized in a research project aimed at optimizing the winglet design of a commercial airliner to enhance stability and reduce vortex-induced drag. The simulations facilitated by Tornado allowed for a detailed examination of different winglet configurations, ultimately leading to a design that offered better performance in terms of stability and fuel efficiency.
