What are the key principles and elements of interaction design?

One time, while designing and developing 'MapStrike', best described as Fortnite meets Pokemon GO, we noticed something strange. We'd been testing with kids for months, and kids kept telling us some of their friends had unfair advantages. We did some research, and it turned out our app favoured kids with ants in their pants - the energetic kids who could run for hours and would blast all enemies. But not all kids play like that. Some are more strategic and like to hang back and make plans for strategic attacks. So, on top of rewarding kids for blasting enemies, we also started rewarding things like staying 'alive', taking over territories and even healing other players. This totally changed our app.

In IxD, key principles focus on creating intuitive and seamless experiences for users. These include feedback, ensuring users get immediate responses to actions; consistency, so similar elements behave predictably; and discoverability, making it easy for users to understand how to interact with the system. The core elements include affordance, which hints at how an object can be used, and visibility, ensuring key features are easily accessible. Goal-driven design focuses on aligning user needs with system functionality, ensuring interactions are efficient, purposeful, and user-friendly.

I've found that a an awesome way to spark life to 'tutorials' is to make up a character, and have that character introduce the rules, setup etc. in a fun and humorous way. Granted, most of my products have been aimed at kids - but I've also done it with products that cater to adults, and it really seems to be universally true. In my mind, I try to invision the little animated character from Jurassic Park, that's shaped like a DNA string. Such an iconic character.

An interface that makes users feel like they're deciphering hieroglyphics isn't ideal. Usability focuses on making the system intuitive and easy to navigate, minimizing the mental effort required to complete tasks. Learnability ensures users can pick up the basics quickly and become comfortable using the interface without extensive training.

I rely heavily on user feedback and testing to refine and improve my products.
