IOT testing needs system and domain understanding similar to any software testing. System understanding is crucial as testing an IOT device need better planning and scoping. If we consider any IOT product it can be customizable and the customization can be to a level where (N=1). Hence this can not be tested as we test any software product. This needs proper scoping and tested on API layers with affirm it works for all possible/valid cases.

In IoT validation testing, a deep understanding of the system architecture, including its components and how they interact, is essential. This knowledge helps in identifying the system's scope and potential risks, and in tailoring tests to meet specific domain needs and user expectations. Such comprehensive insight is crucial for efficient test design and execution, especially in the fast-evolving landscape of IoT technologies.

Proficiency with testing tools like Wireshark for network analysis and Selenium for interface testing, and the ability to automate tests using Python, APIs, and cloud platforms like AWS IoT or Azure IoT, is also essential. These skills ensure thorough, reliable, and technology-specific IoT validation testing.

Collaboration skill is key to test IOT Solutions. Reason is most of the IOT solutions will have multiple components - both hardware and software. One must understand the hardware( sensors, gateways), software (OS, firmware, backend & UI), various protocols. For validating IOT products we must have effective collaboration with these teams to have a better process and execution of testing.
