How to calculate the first pass yield rate?
To calculate the first pass yield rate, you need to know the number of units that enter and exit each stage of your production process. You also need to identify the stages that have any defects or rework. Then, you can use this formula:
FPY = (Number of units that pass stage 1 without defects) x (Number of units that pass stage 2 without defects) x ... x (Number of units that pass the final stage without defects) / (Total number of units that enter the process)
For example, if you have a process with three stages and 100 units enter the process, and you have the following data:
Stage 1: 90 units pass without defects, 10 units have defects
Stage 2: 80 units pass without defects, 10 units have defects, 10 units are reworked
Stage 3: 70 units pass without defects, 10 units have defects, 20 units are reworked
FPY = (90/100) x (80/100) x (70/100) = 0.504
This means that only 50.4% of your units pass through the process without any defects or rework.
