Actually, project manager should to understand the basic in the budget accounting. Nowadays, project managers calculate different types of the projects such as fixed-price, cost-plus, time-and-material and etc. Based on the work experience and education knowledge project managers calculate it every time. I can say the best practice to make the budget of the project it uses the software or excel. Make the useful template in the excel and your life became easy.

Yes, Project manager should to work effectivly in a team with financial analyst. These 2 roles should to make the report for key stakeholders or CEO, CTO together. Based on my experience, PM with the accountant make the financial model for KAM or sales manager and together get the decision about presale or project phase.

I disagree with that. Of course the project managers should to know his or her project totally, however the deep analyse of the project made the financial analyst. This role makes the data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in the project financial data and provide insights and forecasts. PM can prepare all information which he has about project, prepare the spreadsheets, databases, charts, graphs, and dashboards, but deep forecast or analyse makes only financial analyst.

Yes, project manager has to know how to use different software products such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Microsoft Project, Asana, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Slack, Zoom. Software such as the Microsoft Project, Asana, Excel can make the non deep financial analyses which help to project manager to make the forecasts. On my opinion, project managers should work with the financial analyst for deep and huge insights and forecasts. IT companies have the local software for calculating projects, another companies use for these goals excel.

Based on my experience, project managers work on the minimum information or without it. Rarely moments when client deeply and fully understand the technical part of the project which the company wants. We calculate project fast and cover all risks of the company. Especially, when the client has the chaos in the company, project cost for him higher, because risks which project managers can’t calculate should be covered.
