What are the emerging QHSE trends in technology and social impact?

With my industry experience leading large technology teams and programs, QHSE practices play a crucial role in digital transformation. It's imperative that a well communicated and developed framework is implemented to efficiently log and track all QHSE items. Regular communications are essential across the organisation to align on values and common goals, ensuring sustainable practices. Most importantly, maintaining a social license to operate.

Hybrid work is undeniably here to stay, reshaping the traditional workforce and workplace landscape. It has brought a new era of flexibility and collaboration, but it requires both employees and employers to work together to make it successful. Key drivers for managing remote workers include clear safety comms, mandatory HSE training, secure real-time online reporting (must be accessible and easy to use; otherwise, people may not adopt it), regular individual and team check-ins, and fostering a culture of health and safety awareness in the remote work environment.

In our digital age, accessible data, transparency and traceability are becoming increasingly more important in CSR and QHSE - being able to demonstrate clearly the goals and values you have, the actions you are taking, and how those actions directly lead to positive change in alignment with your goals and values is a must. The more "proof" you can provide assures both your organization's team members and the public with that what you are doing is the correct course of action.

I think we are on the cusp of augmented teaming. An industry 5.0esq environment which shares the burden of office administration tasks and grunt work with ai as part of a virtual teams makeup. Allowing fewer team members to focus on higher order thinking and strategy.

In my view, the emerging trend to follow is Augmented Reality (AR) + XR (Extended Reality) for safety training and compliance reporting, along with AI-driven risk analysis. If transformation strategies are executed correctly, it will shape future roadmaps across diverse industry verticals such as education, manufacturing, mining, healthcare, and more. This integration from current to future ways of working and operating signifies a transformative and scalable approach to QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental) practices.
