I think that one has to have realistic expectations about any learning outcomes and expected behavior changes from team building events/activities. That's like going to the gym once and expecting to lose weight. A fluffy event can do more damage than nothing at all if not careful.

So few are willing to make this level of investment in a support process post event. Event is a one time thing. A journey sets a different expectation. I find that few have time or appetite to invest post session to do what it takes to get the desired return on investment.

Ongoing support and coaching is critical if you want new behaviours to stick over time. Any new learning takes time to implement and feel comfortable with, plus there are often bad habits to break. From my experience, it is essential that the team member's manager has to be involved in the pre training and post training process.

One of the important results of team building I have seen is community. I try to build touch bases for the teams or groups as they were aligned during the team building to continually stimulate community for 2-3 months before rotating teams in the next exercise. This familiarity and ease with each other translates directly into employee engagement and then improves customer experience.
