What are effective ways to negotiate for more personal or family time off?

What has always worked for me so going so far above and beyond that when I needed to take time off it was a no brainer. People need breaks to perform more efficiently. If you take time off and truly unplug, you come back to your position more refreshed and ready to slay. Plan it far in advance and make sure that what you’re expecting to do is covered. It’s a win-win.

Make sure all deliverables have been completed, nothing more to follow-up on. Or in cases where weekly progress reports are needed, prepare your endorsement list. Very crucial to have a go-to person in your absence who can speak to the developments and updates senior leadership requires.

IT'S ABOUT VALUE EXCHANGE When you negotiate, you need to have strong bargain position, something valuable to be exchanged. Thus, we energize and balance ourselves emotionally and then find more strength, inspiration to offer professionally. It is also good to find a specific intercalation of personal-professional time in such a way as not to interrupt the flows and key activities in each system. Of course, a constant element in this approach remains communication through which we make sure that what we want to implement is understood, accepted and valued by ourselves and the people concerned.
