In my opinion one thing that stands out is the ability of the product development manager to adapt to the market changes and understand the context of product development. To work with product management you need to understand that: - you are part of a team. only make decisions alone if there is confidential information - you will almost always work with agile methodologies, whoever is joining now needs to know well how the dynamics work - whenever you can you need data, data, data to make a decision - you need to know very well what MVPs are - you need to know what needs to be developed - it is even more important to know what does not need to be developed

The importance of a clear category vision and strategy allows for the innovation pipeline to be aligned to the changing consumer and shopper habits as well as alignment to Retailer or Customer strategies often forgotten about when looking to deliver new ideas or concepts. So in summary innovation needs a clear reason to believe it is needed or will be needed, a category growth opportunity and complete alignment to the retailer to ensure it can be implemented and the opportunity realized.
