A pet counselor begins with understanding the owner and family, their personality and lifestyle. I then suggest breeds with complementary traits to that family for them to make a selection. Before the dog comes home, I work w/the family to set/manage expectations, ensure the home is dog-proof, & that they have a vet, trainer, and supplies needed. Because of my experience in owning dogs for 30+ years, multiple breeds, puppies to seniors, I've experienced numerous behavioral problems and medical conditions, that I am able to advise on, or have a network of resources to recommend. Finding the right dog, educating the owners, results in fewer dogs surrendered or worse, abandoned or neglected. That's a win-win for both dog and humans.
