What do you do if you're vying for a top internship in motivational speaking?

A man whoknows himself is a man who is unstoppable. Once I'm able to identify my weaknesses and strengths I would tend to lean towards roles that help highlight my strength when vying for a role as an intern role. Doing this will help me add value to the best of my ability.

In my opinion, embracing your unique strengths and being authentic about your journey is key to standing out and connecting with others in motivational speaking.

If there is an internship in motivational speaking, I’ve never heard of it. If someone does offer an internship in their motivational speaking practice, then the best way to secure that position is to explain what this position would mean to you and how excited you are to step into the mission and purpose for that motivational speaker.

Above all, study your craft. Like any skill, public speaking gets a lot easier if you (i) learn the tricks of the trade; and (ii) practice a lot. My new book "Lessons in Diplomacy" has a lot about this.

One thing I found to be valuable is to learn while you create your own "fingerprint" or signature style. Learning the fundamentals in building a rock solid business is essential in maintaining momentum and eventual longevity. Take the time to absorb as much information from your mentor(s), but use this time wisely to hone in your craft in the spirit of Excellence!

The more you practice and refine your abilities, the more confident and competent you'll become, making you a strong candidate for that top internship.

Master presentation tools and storytelling techniques, and stay updated on industry trends. The more versatile and skilled you are, the more competitive you'll be for top internships in this field.

Using other vehicles to profit from your expertise other than speaking is smart business. If you do, prospects and clients will view you as an expert with depth. Leverage your intellectual property in other ways. Begin with a blog. 500-800 at least once a week with information around one specific thought. As you write your blog, consider er them chapters for a book. It's all about repurposing. Can you create a course, a membership group, a mastermind, a book study group? Adding these services in a speaking business will fast-track your success, and serve your clients well.

To stand out as a motivational speaker, creating original content is essential. Here's how: → Start a Blog: Share your insights and experiences regularly to establish your voice. → Record Videos: Create short motivational clips to engage with a broader audience. → Host a Podcast: Discuss relevant topics to showcase your expertise and connect with listeners. → Build a Portfolio: Collect all your content in one place to demonstrate your skills and dedication. These steps create tangible proof of your abilities, making you more appealing to potential opportunities.

As a motivator, I would have content enough to get in the game but what a motivator would require is to check if the content is developed well to be delivered to the audience in the most creative ways. Content needs to be engaging be it a post or an article, blog, vlog, podcast or be it a live session. The Comms should be on point and should ideally be delivered in ways where the audience generate attention and interest so that they can act upon by showing a desire and eventually act upon the same.

Content creation is a game-changer. Create content every day on Linkedin. Forget about the likes and comments and keep posting, trust me, someone is watching. This could lead to landing a gig for your internship

Emphasize Emotional Impact: Aim to evoke emotions through your storytelling and message. Emotional connections can significantly enhance the effectiveness of your speech. By integrating these creative elements, you can develop content that not only motivates but also resonates deeply with your audience.

Smart networking can bring many oppotrunities. When networking I would emphasize my passion, communication skills, and eagerness to learn. I'd highlight my dedication to inspiring others and share relevant experiences where I've made a positive impact. I'd also showcase my ability to connect with diverse audiences and tailor messages effectively. Researching the organization thoroughly, I'd align my application with their mission and values. Finally, I'd express my openness to feedback, commitment to growth, and unique perspective, all of which set me apart as a strong candidate for possible internships

I have recently found love in joining Audio events and it's been amazing. Listening to speakers, speaking on such platforms, and connecting with other speakers has been great. Networking smarter is ideal.

Networking is about more than just making connections—it's about building relationships. Attend events, join online communities, and connect with professionals in the motivational speaking industry. Be genuine in your interactions, offering value where you can, whether it's by sharing insights, offering help, or simply showing appreciation for their work. Building a network of mentors, peers, and industry leaders can open doors to internships and other opportunities. Remember, networking is a two-way street; it's as much about what you can offer as what you can gain. Leveraging these relationships can be crucial in landing a top internship.

Effective networking incorporates who you are and what your expertise is. Going to network to any event without a focus is not helpful to you or the people you seek to influence. Identify the industry that you want to work in. Go to those meetings and those conventions of the industry you really want to work in. Go in service. As your meeting people as you're connecting with people learn about the skills they want to master, learn about the problems they're trying to solve, learn about the fears and failures that they've experienced and that they want to overcome. Be a great listener, be a great supporter. Get involved in the organization, show you truly care about the people. They start asking you to speak. That's how magic happens

As you grow, learn to network smartly by connecting with like-minded individuals with visions and prospects that aligns with yours. This will in turn shapen your focus and refine you to be the best you can be.

The way I see motivational speaking is that it is not just about speaking good with nice anecdotes and smart presentation skills. This should come from within your heart. Its about passion, not just your skills. Its about Speak from Experience. You have to live the path and prove by practice is better than precept. If you have been through that journey and are able to present the facts with live examples and experiences, that can be explained as real life case study. People should be able to see them in those stories. Then it would be more effective.

An opportunity like this would most often come as the result of being part of a consulting or coaching firm where there are more speaking opportunities than the CEO is interested in taking on. In those circumstances, it’s critical to seek out feedback so you can continue to learn and emulate the leader’s voice. Accept that it will take a long time to properly communicate the nuance in their messaging and framework… take time to master this opportunity and enjoy the mentorship. When it comes time for you to begin speaking on your own content and framework, you’ll be well-equipped to design and perform a presentation with pride.

As a Motivational Speaker, keep evolving, and grow. Motivational Speaking is a journey that never ends, so never treat it like a destination, evaluate your skills, your delivery, get feedbacks and improve, read as much books as you can, it demands continues learning
