I don't completely agree with this idea. Sometimes when you try to broaden your knowledge you loose reach on experience. Which in my perspective you no longer achieve "expertise" but knowledge. Unless you keep within the range of Administrative knowledge related to each other. A good system administrator not necessary has to have database management skills but can't lack security skills.
