What do you do if you're struggling to stay focused and meet deadlines as a leader?

La priorización con intensión es un camino muy recomendado. Qué quiere decir? Que sobre la matriz que elijas, que hay varias muy valiosas, define claramente qué tareas puedes delegar y a quien según sus competencias para el logro del objetivo. Esto quiere decir que todos tenemos claro que el cumplimiento del objetivo es una ¨logística¨ que podemos sacar entre todos adelante para acercarnos al cumplimiento del objetivo.

One import steps to take before you prioritize is to understand how you are spending your time. A quick time analysis grouping your work into 5 work buckets will help you see. The work buckets can be defined by you, or even aligned to strategic priorities of your department or your organization. If you are spending in inordinate amount of time in one place vs. another, this will help you prioritize.

When I'm struggling to stay focused and meet deadlines, I prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. I break down big tasks into smaller, manageable chunks, setting specific, achievable goals. Additionally, I create a conducive work environment, minimizing distractions and setting aside dedicated time for focused work. Regular breaks and self-care activities help maintain productivity and mental clarity. Lastly, seeking support from mentors or peers provides valuable guidance and accountability.

Anytime I'm coaching with a leader in this space I work to establish a trusting environment so that we can get curious about where they are spending their time currently and if it is aligned with their "rocks". I ask them to quantify the time they need to spend in each of their rocks to be successful which usually takes time for them to identify. Now we can begin to question whether what they declared aligns with their current focus of time which almost always needs to be calibrated. Work with your leader to not just declare their goals, but identify their rocks, quantify time needed in each one from their perspective, and have them design specific action steps to success.

Dentro de las jornadas de trabajo, promover el cumplimiento de las pausas activas es muy conveniente. Esto suena muy normal, pero, mi recomendación hoy día es que al equipo de trabajo se le facilite prácticas de yoga dentro de la empresa y que aprendan a conectar con el momento presente (mindfulness) para que salgan de lo tradicional de estiramientos y demás que son muy valiosos pero, la creatividad y la atención se potencian a partir de la relajación.

Regularmente tenemos por lo menos una reunión a la semana con nuestro grupo primario y destinar un espacio para, en equipo, revisar los avances en los proyectos que están en ejecución, es un complemento de la revisión de KPIs porque le imprime más sentido de pertenencia y responsabilidad a cada uno de los miembros del equipo en el logro de las metas.

Los lideres que asumen toda la carga de la ejecución de las tareas, sin delegar, simplemente están demostrando tener prejuicios que llevaran al menor aprovechamiento del equipo a cargo. Los CEO deben estar muy atentos, por supuesto a través de sus departamentos de gestión humana de cuándo esto pasa, porque en el cumplimiento de un jefe que asume todo, se encierra muchas cosas. Ese gran jefe que cumple asumiendo todo termina reventado y sus colaboradores, seguramente desaprovechados.

Priorities should be fluid, they will and should shift based on what is happening in the business. Ensure you have time blocked to think about the shifts in the business, in your department, with your team that may require a shift in priorities (for yourself and your team). Communicate these changes to your team and to your peers so that they understand what you are working on. If you are new to your role or there is a significant change happening in your organization, you may need your manager to help you with prioritization.
