Make the documentation your best friend. 4. Use Google Colab or any IDE to get hands-on experience. When you apply the concepts practically, that's when you will not find it overwhelming.

The initial steps to building a ML model can be super challenging. Often I feel like it's trying to get to the top of a high mountain, but I have no idea now to go about it. This is where I find problem solving and breaking the challenge into sizable chunks helpful. Say if task is to predict the likely hood of customers buying home appliances through out the year. You can start with likely hood of customers buying Kettle in May. Other steps to hard challenges: 1) Understand the problem better, read up on domain specific knowledge if needed. 2) Analyse the data you currently have, also note down extra data that may be needed. 3) Identify features in data that may be more relevant to assisting with the predictions.

First, try a model you are interested in from a blog post, like Medium, with default data. Then, try it with your own data. This should give you enough motivation to keep going. Next, choose a good book that you will make your bible, like "Aurélien Géron - Hands-On Machine Learning with Scikit-Learn, Keras, and TensorFlow Concepts." Such a book will also include resources such as references to papers and blogs you can follow and read about. If you prefer video content, you can take online courses or watch YouTube tutorials. However, having a basic understanding of Probability and Statistics, Calculus, linear algebra, and in-depth knowledge of NumPy can also ease understanding of these models at an abstract level of TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.

By coding, you turn abstract theories into skills. Experiment with the code and observe the impact on the results. Start with Python. Use notebooks on Kaggle and Colab, so you can easily share and ask for help. Implement algorithms or models from scratch using step-by-step tutorials. The important part is to not hurry. Move forward only if you are understanding what you're doing. Ask ChatGPT to explain code or concepts in simple words using analogies and examples. Always experiment and tweak. Once you're comfortable with a basic implementation, start modifying parameters or the algorithm's structure. Observe how these changes affect the model's accuracy, speed, or ability to generalize. But, what might seem trivial to you might not be the same to others. Thus, when you explain these concepts to others, you might discover gaps in your understanding or reinforce the knowledge with a much deeper understanding. In summary, teaching helps you gain deeper insights and a better grasp of the material.

From my experience, teaching is one of the surest ways to gain mastery of ML concepts as well as the coding skill that comes with it. It provides you with people who will be asking you smart questions, and if you are a teacher that cares about your reputation, you sure must be prepared always. So, find someone to teach your ML skill and you will be forced to learn as well as master the concept before showing up.

Learning is an active process. You should reflect about what you are reading. I use to say that the continuous effort of conscient thinking about some subject is what make you truly understand some topic. This isn't different for Machine learning concepts.

Here's my go-to strategy: I jump right into a project to get my hands dirty, reading the bare minimum theory/documentation to get up and running. I push on that for a day or two until I can feel things getting difficult because of my naivety. Then I go and find a blog/tutorial/crash-course to get some broader perspective. Then I go back to my project, make some improvements, and get to a stable PoC. Then I make the decision whether or not to proceed with a course or a book. I like this approach b/c it keeps things fresh and fun, and makes it easy to see real progress. Also, the interplay between hands-on practice and theoretical learning enhances comprehension, as theory alone can be abstract without practical application to ground it.

Replicate - Adapt - Improvise (a top to bottom approach) 1. I find a project that applies the concepts that I am trying to get a grasp on 2. I try to Replicate the project, get in on the dirty coding part 3. On the way I stumble upon different problems and trying to solve them helps in clarifying the bits and pieces 4. As I Adapt and solve the sub-problems, I also try to incorporate my ideas in the work(Improvise)

Machine Learning Models like Google SEO is not a 'one size fits all' nor is it a 'do and forget' project. As the data change, the business circumstances change, the model would slowly start to deviate from it's original accuracy. It is vital you set these expectations with the business, and they understand before embarking on a ML project. Otherwise it could lead to unmet expectations: 1) Models needs to be maintained for it to remain accurate, especially in times of change. 2) A model that works well in one situation may not in another. 3) What goes in comes out. Bad or not enough data goes in, then a bad or lacking response would come out.

While aiming to learn machine learning, we often miss on learning the statistics concepts/algorithm, once you are comfortable implementing medium complexity problems in python, brush up or learn concepts of statistics like population & sample, Probability distributions, hypothesis testing, variance, EDAs etc.
