What do you do if you're struggling to balance your time while learning new entrepreneurial skills?

I had an internship that left me feeling completely overwhelmed. I was juggling multiple projects at once, trying to learn new skills, and constantly running from one task to the next. It wasn't until I sat down and prioritized my tasks that I started to regain control. I realized that some tasks were urgent and important, while others could wait a bit longer. I focused on mastering the skills that would have the most immediate impact on the company, like learning how to use new software. By allocating my time and energy in a way that made the most sense for the business, I was able to be more productive and efficient. It was a valuable lesson in learning to prioritize and make the most of my time.

I think setting realistic goals are important in this situation. How many hours a week can you contribute to obtaining this new skill? What days are ideal? What time of day? If 1 day doesn't work out, is there an alternative day you can commit to? Once this is established, you can adjust as necessary to make sure you stay on track.

The biggest change to my productivity is blocking off time for "deep work". Here's how I do that. 1. I find ONE significant task that I need to do 2. Block off 2-6 hours to work on only that ONE thing 3. Use the Pomodoro method for taking small breaks 4. Turn my phone on Do Not Disturb 5. Keep my phone out of arms reach or in my immediate visual range If you've never done this, it will take you a while to get focused. That's okay. Your brain isn't used to operating this way. Give yourself 5 minutes to walk around but do NOT get on your phone. Then get back to it. Eventually, your head will clear and you will enter a state of incredible flow. You can do two days of work in a few hours because you are at peak efficiency. Try it.

If it's not on your calendar it's not happening. Make it a ritual, just like you brush your teeth every night before bed. Have that 20-30-60 minutes sessions to learn AND practice

Time blocking helps me get a massive amount of work done. I break a task into smaller tasks and then I block time on my calendar for those tasks. When I block time for tasks, I am committed to getting those tasks done without distractions. My team has access to my calendar, so they know not to book a call with me during the times I have blocked, and they also know not to expect an immediate response to email. For some or many, delegating can be one of the most difficult actions to do as the concept of "only I can really do it well and how I want or need it to be" could be a strong one to overcome.

From google tools to chat GPT, from Canva to AI flier designs, from Facebook to Instagram, from Coursea to edX there is a whole world of tools that suit your purposes. Never stop learning and growing. Never feel that you know so much you cannot learn more. Embrace change and learning new stuff. Innovate, create, apply.

Get a coach or a mentor. They can compress years of experience into few hours of learning they are the best shortcut to get you to learn faster.

Don't Have Time is a Myth: In my opinion, one of the first skills an entrepreneur must develop is to manage time smartly. Not having enough time is only but an excuse. I am not denying the fact that as an entrepreneur there are n number of responsibilities that one has to take care. However, being a continuous learner and upgrading your skillsets continues to remain a non-negotiable.

Entrepreneurial skills are best learned while running and managing businesses and can rarely be taught through courses and master classes. Each day of my over thirty-year entrepreneurial experience has brought new learning. I experiment and act as the day passes. If the challenges I face are new and unforeseen and open up uncharted territories, I reflect on them early in the morning. I contact some of my trusted friends, colleagues, financial and legal advisors. But mostly - being an emotional person, I mostly let my instincts and intuition be my teachers, who have been my regular companions throughout my entrepreneurial life.
