If you can reach out and find someone willing to mentor you personally, that's perfect. However, if you just can't make that happen, you can just read a lot. And if you can read other copywriting content, then that's even better. There's plenty of such content on- and offline in blog and book format. And of course, read and learn from other copies.

Stop looking for people to Mentor you. ? They don't have time. ? They don't care. Instead what you should aim to do is: ?? Find a way into their ecosystem ?? Buy anything they're selling & share the results. This will not only allow you gain clarify, but will also allow them to notice you. Guess who they would recommend when opportunities come flooding their way? You.

Seeking guidance from industry professionals is a smart move in advancing your copywriting career. Start by identifying experts whose work you admire and reach out via LinkedIn messages or emails. Be concise and genuine in your approach, expressing your appreciation for their work and asking specific questions that demonstrate your interest and dedication. Offer to share insights or work in return, fostering mutual respect. Additionally, engage actively in LinkedIn groups or forums related to copywriting and marketing, sharing your perspectives and learning from others. Networking events, webinars, and workshops are also valuable for connecting with mentors and peers. Remember, the key is to be proactive, respectful, and open to feedback.

One "hack" people don't talk about is that you can use the "google discussions" tab to search for forums where your ideal audience is gathering. Interact with people in these forums, send DMs, ask them how their day was, and form alliances when necessary. Share their content that you feel is valuable, message them and point out things that you've learnt. Do all this with genuine interest, and watch what happens when an opportunity comes up, and they're looking for someone in a field such as yours.

Your portfolio is how you highlight yourself as an expert writer. When pitching yourself, whether its an interview or online, your work should speak for itself. A diverse portfolio helps showcase the work you are capable of. If possible, include a variety of different pieces, clients and voices.

Your Portflio should be your secret weapon. And as such, shouldn't be something that you'd carelessly display. Ask your Mentor for the best way to showcase it. One method I've always found useful is showcasing this Portfolio on a site, instead of a Google Drive. This doesn't only make you seem professional, but will also prove that you're different, which is something you should always aim for.

It has been my experience over the years that when pitching a potential client, it's easier to say I'm competent enough to do this effectively because I've done "these" (showcase your diverse portfolio) than it is to say trust me, I can do this. Nothing beats proof in the eyes of your target clients. They're not about to hand over their project to someone who's going to start experimenting. You have to be able to show you're able to do it by showing them what you've done in the past.

Just like anywhere else in life, you must keep learning. A copywriter is a forever student. Never expect to be "finally done" with your studies. Always be ready to learn; and ready to listen. Or in other words: be quick to listen, and slow to speak.

There is no end to learning. Always be open to new ideas, new insights, new discoveries. Never be the kind of person who feels there is nothing to learn because a certain topic isn't in your field of interest. The greatest minds have always gone out and discover things that made them extraordinary. This will not only keep your juices flowing, but will also give you endless ideas that you can use in your writing.
