Speak to the fitters that have been working on the machinery on the phone and go through what they have done and see if they have missed any thing and talk them through some more checks and tests and see if it helps to check various components

Excuse me? Are you asking how to avoid performing tasks that you are part of your job that you consider to be a waste of your time? Perhaps you should have a chat with yourself to see if field engineering is the right career choice for you. Not all tasks associated with a particular career path are "fun". But they are often and usually necessary. You're being paid to perform labor. There is likely nothing in your job description that exempts you from any task that you feel is beneath you. Perhaps you should get over yourself, suck it up and just do your frigging job!
