You will always have more time than tasks when you are in a fundraising career. It is key to have a focus on which are urgent and which are important. Why does this matter? We will always do the urgent, often pressed by other people in your organisation, investors or deadlines. Urgent often gets in the way of important. Important tasks are those that directly deliver the funding you are looking to secure. My advice is to do three (no more) important tasks every day. By the end of a month you will have significantly moved towards meeting your fundraising goals.

Here's the key: Not all tasks are created equal. Focus on what truly moves the needle for your fundraising goals. Think "impact, not just effort." Crafting a killer pitch deck is probably more important than alphabetizing your donor list (sorry, alphabetizing fans!). Embrace the calendar and to-do list. These are your weapons! Schedule meetings, set deadlines, and track your progress. Learn to say "no" (nicely). Sometimes, well-meaning requests have to wait. Focus on what gets you closer to securing that funding! Prioritization is all about: Clarity: Knowing what absolutely needs to be done first. Focus: Directing your energy towards the most impactful tasks. Time Management: Getting the most out of your precious fundraising hours.

In fundraising, task prioritization is key. You must prepare a list of all the tasks required during your fundraising journey and segregate it into two categories: Important and Urgent (Time-sensitive). Once completed, analyze and begin working on urgent tasks first. According to me, crafting a compelling pitch deck, along with market research that aligns with investor preferences, should be your first urgent priority. Additionally, to stay on track, utilize tools like Google Calendar, To-Do Lists, and AI tools for productivity and management such as Notion, otterAI, Todoist AI Assistant, etc.

Create a detailed fundraising plan with clear timelines, milestones, and responsibilities to ensure efficient use of resources. Utilize technology and automation tools to manage donor databases, track communications, and streamline administrative tasks. Delegate responsibilities where possible and leverage partnerships or collaborations to expand outreach and maximize resources. Additionally, establish regular checkpoints to evaluate progress, adjust strategies as needed, and maintain focus on fundraising goals amidst other business priorities. By implementing systematic approaches and optimizing available resources, entrepreneurs can effectively manage their time while driving fundraising efforts forward.

Regularly review the assumptions which you have used to create the detailed calculations of the amount you need to raise. These will be challenged regularly by investors. 2. Use your networking activities to challenge your assumptions related to how much you will need, the timeline you are working to and the resources you have assumed are required. 3. Be collaborative. The fastest and most effective approach to use when fundraising is collaborative. Collaboration, consistency and a mixed networking approach will significantly enhance any fundraising activities.
