What do you do if you're a beginner in the workforce and need to prepare for a job interview?

Research the Company: Learn about the company you're interviewing with, including its mission, values, products or services, and recent news or developments. Understanding the company's background and culture will help you tailor your responses during the interview. Review the Job Description: Familiarize yourself with the job description and requirements for the position you're applying for. Identify key skills, experiences, and qualifications the employer is seeking and think about how your background aligns with them. Prepare Your Responses: Anticipate common interview questions such as "Tell me about yourself," "Why do you want to work here?" and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" Practice your responses to these questions.

There are a few general categories to understand when you are preparing for your first interview. You need to know the company’s Culture, values, job responsibilities, expectations of the role, and general industry trends. Come up with talking points for each of these categories and I am sure that you will go in to your next interview well prepared. There is also the aspect of character to take in to account. Characteristics like punctuality, engagement, energy, charisma, attitude, and effort all play a huge role in the decision making process. Be sure not to overlook these qualities while you interact with the team.

You cannot prepare an answer for every possible interview question. So don’t try. Focus less on specific questions and more on adaptability. Instead of memorizing scripted answers, practice with answer structures. Know yourself. Review your skills and experiences to date. Know the Job Description. Then practice thinking on your feet: tailor spontaneous, thoughtful responses that demonstrate how you can contribute value using the structures you practiced, rather than reciting wooden, rehearsed answers. This strategy not only prepares you for a wider range of questions but also showcases your analytical abilities and alignment with the company's goals, making you a more dynamic and attractive candidate. Choose the right questions to ask at the end of the interview to identify red flags and improve your chances of getting the job 1- From your experience, what is the best thing about working here? Helps you connect with the interviewer (remember: most people like talking about themselves more than anything else). Makes you memorable - it's not an obvious question, and candidates rarely think to ask it. 2. Can you tell me more about your company values and how they are put into action? This question shows that you care about company culture and helps you learn more about the company's approach to employees and customers in real life, not just on paper.

Change is accomplished by picturing situations, and visualizing a better outcome based on principles. If you are having an interview tomorrow, try picturing yourself as relaxed and happy when meeting the interviewer, and appreciating their time. If you’re fresh in the work environment, it’s likely you don’t have a deep reservoir of experiences to pull from. Ideally your interviewer also understands this and screens you accordingly. Respect to those who do. At this stage it’s less about refined skills and more about being personable, aptitudes and ways you can show learning ability. Explore non-employed work and project examples that reveal what you can do, how they translate for the role. You’ll want to present examples of being adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity, the space-time between needing a solution and discovering it. New + interviewed = the company either has some systems in place to train you or trusts you could potentially handle their daily environment.

Consider how your personal attributes, such as adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, can contribute to the company's success. Be prepared to discuss your career goals, motivations, and why you're interested in the position. Understanding yourself and your unique value proposition will enable you to articulate your strengths confidently during the interview.

Mock Interviews are one of the best ways to practice out loud. Many colleges, universities, local workforce centers, and a few people (like me!) on LinkedIn are willing to help you with a mock interview. This will help get some coaching and feedback on how you are answering questions as well as help cut down on your nerves so you compose your answers.

Remember - All experience, albeit paid or unpaid, IS still EXPERIENCE. If you ran a club at school, volunteered, participated in a larger project: break these skills down. Review them in relation to the job responsibilities. Write some success stories out, then review them. Also consider what went wrong, how you adjusted and what you learned from your experiences. Practice telling your stories. Succinct yet powerful. Compelling.

You can use your phone to record yourself while practicing. Watch back the video to see how you sound and adjust your tone, speed, clarity, and body language. It’s a good idea to wear your interview clothes while practicing. This helps you get comfortable with them. If possible, practice with a friend or family member. They can boost your confidence and point out any awkward phrases or places where you can improve. Good luck ????

It may feel, look, and sound silly, however, practicing the interview will help. Ask someone to assist you. Have them be the interviewer, and ask common questions, as well as questions found through research. This way, when the real interview comes, you will feel a little more comfortable, and some of your answers will flow a little smoother and with more confidence.

The old saying “dress for success” or “dress for the position you want” ring true. Even if you anticipate the interview to be without a camera, always plan for someone to say, turn on the camera. You don’t have to dress as if it’s a wedding, funeral, or you’re meeting a dignitary, however, dress with respect for the position you applied for as well as the person(s) making the decision about whether you are getting the job. Otherwise, the interviewer may interpret your appearance as, you don’t respect the organization, the job, or the interviewer. First impressions, can last a life time. And you don't want that to be the reason you don't get the job you are the best qualified for.

On the day of the interview, make sure to bring all necessary documents and materials. This may include multiple copies of your resume, a list of references, a pen and notepad for taking notes, and any other relevant documents or portfolio samples. Arriving prepared demonstrates your organization skills and attention to detail. Additionally, consider bringing a list of questions to ask the interviewer to show your genuine interest in the role and company. Being well-prepared with the necessary materials will help you feel more confident and ready to tackle the interview.

After the interview, don't forget to send a personalized thank-you email or note to express your gratitude for the opportunity to interview. Use this opportunity to reiterate your interest in the position and to highlight key points from the interview that showcase your qualifications and enthusiasm. Keep your follow-up message concise, professional, and timely, sending it within 24-48 hours after the interview. Following up demonstrates your professionalism, appreciation for the opportunity, and commitment to the role.

Utiliser ChatGPT pour préparer l'entretien d'embauche. Comment faire ? C'est simple. Vous mettez la description du poste dans ChatGPT et vous écrivez le prompt suivant : "Dans la cadre d'un entretien de recrutement pour la société (...) pour le poste de (...) dont le texte de la description de poste suit, quelles sont toutes les questions que le recruteur pourrait me poser ?" Lancez ChatGPT. Copiez la liste de questions qu'il vous propose. Puis relancez-le plusieurs fois : "Parfait. Et maintenant, merci de lister des questions sur les soft skills". Puis :"Et maintenant des questions pièges ?" Puis : "Excellent. Et maintenant des questions sur la personnalité et le comportement ?" Etc. A la fin de cet exercice, faites le tri.

HUMILITY. Lead with the fact that it is clearly no secret that you are new to the workforce and that you sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have caught their eye for an interview. Now, via humor, ask, what it was about your application that did catch their eye, given that clearly it wasn't your employment history lol. Take that subject and use it to further solidify in their minds why THAT, in fact, was noteworthy and how it is one thing about you that sets you apart. It could be your 3x championship in kickboxing, or your ability to use sign language. Whatever it is that they point out (as to why they called you in)... you remind them of that and run with it to build rapport, develop trust, and nail that first impression.

Your new to the workforce and interviewing, can feel a bit overwhelming. Here are a few tips to help you feel confident. Prepare for the interview by researching the company. Visit the company’s website to learn about their products and services. Understand their mission statement and company values. Review the job posting for the position you are interviewing for. Make sure you understand the responsibilities and duties of the position. If possible, prepare examples from prior work or volunteer experience that demonstrate your skills and how you are qualified for the position.

Go into the interview with the idea that this is a conversation to discover whether what this company is offering is what you are seeking, rather than offense vs. defense. It's one thing to "get the offer". It's quite another to actually want to work for the company. You have the ability to choose.
