What do you do if your web application launch receives negative feedback and criticism?

Enjoy it. Getting negative feedback I mean. It's literally free user testing!! Try not to get upset about the comments. Try to see why that person may think that. Work out the genuine root cause, if it's something you think could also be an issue or others mention the same thing. Take note. Harvest that data and make it work for you. If you get no feedback at all, I'd be worried!

Take a step back and objectively assess the comments to identify the underlying issues. Group similar concerns to understand common themes among the feedback. At this point you need to go through all the feedback one by one and check how much truth is in it. So even if the feedback is disingenuous, you need to respond with facts.

We should first gather the facts from the criticism. Prioritize them for most important to least important, impact that they create and work on the plan to improve the experience and consider the feedback on a regular basis, and measure the success in baby steps of receiving a positive criticism!!

In my experience, the first version of a web application will never be the final version. In fact, the purpose of the first version is going to be to have a base to iterate off of. Imagine if Facebook never decided to build a native mobile app in 2009 and only had a web version (like they did)? We likely would not use Facebook in the same way. They needed to iterate and learn. Here’s so advice: 1. Launch a web version at 80-90% and collect feedback from users. 2. Iterate on the next version based on what the data shows and what users tell you to change. 3. Create a monthly release schedule so users know when to expect what’s next. Don’t try to boil the ocean each month. Hope this helps you.

The first version of the web application should be a beta version with well tested open to public for there response. We should build good ways to capture feedback and learn to improve them to the desire of customers. Make sure we have enough intelligent ways to capture feedback.

Make sure the feedback you are getting makes sense and will benefit more than just the reporter. I have gotten trapped in the circle of adding features and changes because one 'loud' user wanted changes for his business. In the process of making those changes we alienated a huge base of users and ended up losing more than we gained.
