If you’re trying to build something and you’ve decided to incorporate AI, encourage your team to do what they need to do to learn how to do it. Good developers know how to learn new things quickly, they have to in order to be good developers. Don’t assume you know which courses to take or even what technology to look for. Trust your team.

It is extremely important to have tried and tested the tools before disseminating them to the team and asking them to use. Most of these AI/ML tools are still being developed and we have seen some responses which still need to be calibrated. While I'ma big beliver of these tools that are now widely available, be prudent before using them.

This is a really tricky one. Make sure you get a chance to try a tool out with your data before you buy in. So many tools have great demos and excellent websites but fail to deliver consistent value.

Choose projects that are relatively simple and have clear objectives. Proof of Concept: Develop a proof of concept for your chosen AI or ML application. I still think it’s wrong to “implement AI”. Look for tools that actually solve a problem you have, and don’t worry too much about how they accomplish it. If they happen to use AI, that’s great. Just make sure it solves the problem you are trying to solve. You will naturally implement gradually because you’re just trying to solve a single problem. Once it is solved, you can look at other problems and solve those. Over time you will be implementing tools that maybe use AI, but you’ll be doing so one problem at a time.

Define Metrics for Success: Before deploying AI and ML solutions, establish clear and measurable metrics to track the impact of these technologies. This could include metrics such as time saved on tasks, improvements in data accuracy, or increased productivity. Regular Review: Schedule regular reviews to assess progress against the defined metrics. This one is easy. Does it solve the problem you originally set out to solve or not? Most AI is about time saving, so you’ll have to ask your team to report back if the tool you implemented actually saves them time. You can get clever with surveys and things but at the end of the day, it either saves you time or solves a problem or it doesn’t.

Implement AI and machine learning tools gradually, starting with small-scale pilot projects to test their effectiveness. This is the biggest problem with AI moving to enterprise scale. You can’t iterate often. You pick a tool, people start using it, and then trying to replace it is a nightmare. The best thing you can do is understand the problem you are trying to solve in the first place thoroughly. Spend the most time on this. Once you’ve adopted a tool, it’s hard to change it out or reverse the decision.
