What do you do if your team members are resistant to your communication efforts?

Sometimes the team member maybe having their own imaginary reasons. So, it is important to identify and understand the reason before jumping to conclusions. Try and solve their concerns. In case the team members still feels resistant then involve a manager or someone who can resolve the issue.

Find out what is causing the resistance. Have the courage to hold an honest conversation and ask what their concerns are. Listen. If there are specific concerns or objections raised by your team members, address them openly and constructively. Listen to their perspective, acknowledge their concerns, and work together to find solutions. Lead by example. Model the behaviour you want to see in your team. For example, being clear, concise and respectful in your communication.

One thing that I have found really helpful is transparency in communication. Every team member needs to trust YOU with the fact that there is no ambiguity in your communication.

Well once your team trusts you with transparency in communication then it is easier to realign. Every manager/teammember must feel comfortable in sharing their concerns regardless of their importance or gravity.

In case of managers / leaders it is important that the team members feel safe when they make a mistake. The tiniest of tasks when applauded brings results. Everyone likes to be acknowledged and appreciated for all their efforts. Also, it is imperative that team members feels heard, acknowledged and celebrated.

My understanding is when team members are not scared they are more forthcoming with every small error and every big mistake. Managers/leaders need to instill that. Every time someone makes a mistake it is important to ask THEM how would they like to fix it. Allow them that space. People shine like stars with a supportive manager/leader. Making people feel seen, heard, valued and supported is an art & a science. Managers/leaders are so involved in their own imaginary egotistical spaces that they forget the importance of these small gestures.
