What do you do if your team members don't trust you?

Build a rapport with the team in whole. Breakdown the rapport with all the team members to know their pulse and gravity in the team and about the team. This clear and effective rapport building, improves the communication which in turn will lead your team to trust you. This gradual changes will bring trust within the team and all the team members will trust you on your decisions and words. Thus we achieve something which we lags and lacks.

If my team members don't trust me, it's crucial to take steps to rebuild trust. Start by actively listening to their concerns and feedback without becoming defensive. Be transparent and honest in my communications and actions, demonstrating integrity and reliability. Follow through on commitments and promises to show consistency. Foster an environment of mutual respect and collaboration, where team members feel valued and included in decision-making processes. Building trust takes time and effort, so be patient and consistent in my efforts to rebuild trust with my team.

Always be open with your team members, be respectful, be honest & truthful…. it will cement a very strong and open working relationship towards a long lasting working relationship.

The best thing you can do is to be consistent, to walk your word... With time they will notice that your words match with your acts, and trust will come naturally. Remember trust is not yours by right, is a gift others give you

How ever much it eats you inside, especially as a team leader/supervisor, knowing you were in the wrong doing….. never try to hide it, cover it up, or push it under the carpet as they say….. Own up to it…. take ownership of the mistake…. As I have found, you’ll get the up most respect from your team for being honest & upfront about the wrong doing…. The big bonus is you show your team and others the value of speaking up and can work towards stopping the same things happening again. We all make mistakes, it is part of human life.

Just think.. Do we take advice of our subordinates while excuting projects? Giving team members the freedom to do things not by directing or micro managing. Individual working on ground need to empowered to make work related decisions.Involving subordinate in the decisions making process is likely to lead to better decisions as well as acceptance and implementation of these decision.

Put the time and effort in to know your team members…. Don’t just watch, but ask about there strengths or weaknesses on certain tasks. I myself treat my employees as my second family…. My role yes as a Supervisor is to delegate the tasks for the day….. I put my effort in to getting as much input and information from them as possible so they are placed in the right tasks through the day…. If you don’t ask you won’t know sometimes. As always, safety is the number one priority in my industry…. But you won’t have a safe workplace if you don’t have confident & happy employees.

I have noticed that the path of positivity is being pushed so hard, that negative enforcements are better utilized in some circumstances. If there is a ring leader pushing distrust in your team, can be highlighted as the next person to quit like it was their idea. A hard stance against degrading the work environment can be swift and precise. In construction trust is a nice luxury, which is few and far between. I tell the new joiners to “Trust no one, until they have proved reliable in their eyes!” Not by others opinions. I have proven with my own experience that if you’re not here to empower and improve the team then maybe you should join some other team because mistrust can be a moral and productivity killer. Lies always build more lies!
