If my team is split on usability testing methods, I'd lead a heart-to-heart discussion to grasp everyone's viewpoint and intentions as this is an avenue to learn from each other. Then, I'd suggest a blend or compromise that combines the best of each method, considering everyone's worries. By promoting teamwork and highlighting our shared aim of improving user experience, we can bridge gaps and cultivate a more harmonious testing strategy. Regular check-ins and tweaks will keep us on track for continuous improvement.

When there's disunity among teams, I see it as an opportunity to apply soft skills like 1. Effective communication: here I'd lead a discussion to understand everyones view point and reasons behind their choice. We'll go ahead to check the pros and cons of each method and how relevant it is to our project. 2. Team brainstorm: as a team we'll look at the project constraints ( time, budget, etc) and know which method best suits our project bearing in mind the goal of the usability testing ( that is what we're trying to achieve). 3. Agreement: base on the facts we've gathered we'll decide on which method to go with as a team

To be very honest, I will let them go on 2 different paths in their own squad and see what results they will bring, IF I CAN. But, in case i can't then i will take them all in the conference room to play games like hot-potato, not to come up with solution but to let know what others are thinking and why they are adamant about it. This way, as their leader I will be able to achieve 3 things. 1. Where is my team lacking, so that I can work on it? 2. Why this division in team to execute the idea happened? 3. How to bring them together. After all know all that, even if I failed at uniting them. I can make the final call to keep project on track. Also, now I will prepare in advance for this to never happen again.

Do you really need user interviews to validate a colour change in a specific design element? Not really. There are enough reasoning for each research method to understand which one to choose for specific feature. If the team is divided on choosing a research method between two which are similar, I would prefer to split the team, do both and compare the results. Any method is good if it compliments another similar method. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how much time you are willing to spend on this particular research session and how much of a budget you have for the same. Choose wisely.

I would prefer to have a call with entire team to understand their method and reasons. Then our role comes in between to understand the project need and timelines to decide hybrid or best suited for project without impacting the delivery.

One I found very helpful to get everyone on the same page was showcasing with prototypes i would gather data and insights from the conversation and create prototypes based on everyone's feedback then share it with the team to get the team's thoughts. If it isn't right everyone will have a thought that can lead us in a direction as one.

Facilitating Workshops indeed pays off only when its carried out right in the beginning of requirements. That is one opportunity to understand it from the stakeholders and discuss in detail. This is one opportunity where the MVP, NFR's etc. should be captured so to avoid ambiguity later on.

Best is to go with both considering there is enough threshold to handle the split approach. Where applicable use as an AB test. In the case this isn’t financially/fiscally viable, that determines what works after an assessment and breakdown.
