What do you do if your teaching decisions are hindering your executive success?

Delegating effectively was a game-changer on my journey to executive success, although I'll admit, it's been hard. Juggling a hectic job, teaching, and mentoring commitments made i clear: I couldn't do it all alone. Trusting others with important tasks was a tough pill to swallow. But gradually, I learned what I could hand off without compromising quality. It took some time, but setting clear expectations and goals made a world of difference. And you know what? Recognizing and thanking those who stepped up was a game-changer. It wasn't just about getting stuff done; it was about building a team and showing appreciation. Plus, being upfront when I couldn't manage everything on my plate? Surprisingly, most folks were pretty understanding.

Embracing change is essential for executive success. In my experience, when technologies like ChatGPT emerged in teaching, understanding and integrating them became crucial. Stay curious about new ideas and technologies; they could revolutionize your methods and enhance the learning experience for your students. But embracing change isn't just about adopting new tools—it's also about listening to feedback. When you give your students a voice and make them feel heard, real growth happens. So, stay open to feedback and be proactive in seeking it out. It's through this cycle of curiosity, adaptation, and feedback that you'll continue to evolve and excel in your executive role.

Change is inevitable in all fields including Teaching. Resisting change does not stop it; we just end up being outdated and inefficient when we don’t adapt. Teaching is also an extended form of learning.

Feedback on communication, whether in the form of acknowledgement, queries, opinions, they all work to create a clear understanding of what has been communicated. Communication is effective only when it is received in the right form and right context.

Neglecting self-care is a pitfall that can hinder executive success—one I've learned from firsthand experience. Balancing a demanding job, pursuing two master's degrees, writing a thesis, building university courses, and teaching simultaneously pushed me to the brink. Implementing focused work sessions of around 90 minutes followed by rejuvenating breaks became my saving grace. Incorporating regular exercise and hobbies into my routine not only refreshed my mind but also boosted my productivity. Prioritizing my physical, mental, and emotional well-being became non-negotiable. And you know what? Taking care of myself didn't just benefit my health—it significantly improved my output and overall quality of my work.

Work life balance is also an important factor in achieving success. It is a combination of factors like setting priorities, self care and setting boundaries. This can also prevent burnout.
