What do you do if your IT strategy prioritizes innovation over security?

In navigating the tightrope between innovation and security, it is like weighing two sides of a coin. Balancing the promise of growth with the risks of cyber threats is key. I usually engage with the stakeholders prior to the decision meeting by providing them a questionnaire/thoughtful questions which helps them to think and understand that while we chase innovation, security and compliance can't be sidelined. It is a delicate dance, but essential. Just like without rules, there is chaos, compromising on security for innovation could sink our ship. So it is about finding consensus on what is non negotiable.

Understanding the trade-offs involved can help you make informed decisions about where to allocate resources and how to mitigate risks. For example, deploying a new application rapidly can enhance competitiveness but may expose the business to security vulnerabilities.

They have a few things that they consider valuable, a few which are valuable, and a lot that are neither. They will spend a reasonable amount to protect perceived valuables. You can be of value by correcting mismatches and offering tested solutions, but beware: pragmatists don't want to change, so they will only do so if they feel that the alternative is pain.
