I have found coding on a personal project for fun is a way to keep your skillsets up to date. It gives you a low risk way learn the latest dev platforms at your own pace.

If you want to stay coding, then there is no substitute to do it every day. There are positions in software development and engineering that don't involve producing code every day. And there is great controversy in the field over whether every technical job has to involve production of code. I'd stay as close to it as possible. But often when one progresses to leadership roles, other things - domain knowledge, elaboration of backlog, sourcing, methodologies demand substantial time of their own. The risk is these items are often undervalued and eliminated when times get tough. Always be aware of your skills, and your value, and be prepared to elaborate them.

The software industry is constantly growing and changing, at an extreme speed, for this reason it is important to keep up to date with the technologies that are emerging and gaining strength in the market, it is a good strategy to use tools like LinkedIn to see what is being used in the industry, once the technologies have been identified, we must find a way to learn them, using learning tools such as LinkedIn learning, YouTube, AWS and the it's own documentation, then practice, create projects, exchange ideas with networking and keep yourself constantly learning, after that, you can add the new skills to your resume or linkedIn and find a new or better job opportunity. If there is a certification for said technology, try to earn it.

You might be tempted to jump straight into writing code, but it is so important to understand the fundamentals of the new technology and its corresponding best practices so you don’t get caught later realizing you taught yourself wrong.

Constantly update your CV by looking at job posts. Sometimes by going through job posts you can see what is in demand and accordingly adjust the CV to match what the employer wants and needs. And also see if any skills needs improvement. Keeping the CV up to date will also make a good impression on thr HR who can see that you are in demand and constantly eager to learn new things.

I find that updating your LinkedIn profile is more important than updating your resume. Today, people are more available to online content, so, the reach out for you is more relevant when the info is online. After you update your online profile, go ahead and update your resume. In some cases it can simply be copy & paste from your Linkedin profile.

Follow industry blogs, podcasts (focus on "emerging tech") to spark curiosity about new tools and frameworks. When you encounter a new technology, don't skim. Find tutorials, documentations, or online courses to understand its core concepts. Use your newfound curiosity to explore! Build personal projects using these new technologies. I keep what I call my ?radar“. It’s a section in my notes app, structured using tags. Whenever I discover something that might be of use some day, I add it there. Someone blogs about a new build tool? I add it to my radar, with URLs and the major facts of interest, short and crisp. Some day, our build tool doesn’t fit our requirements anymore, and I already have one or two good options at hand. My radar contains architecture patterns, k8s controllers, collaboration platforms and meeting formats. If I discover some useful critique a database, I add it to its page. So I keep relevant information for later evaluation ready at hand.

This is what I always mention to my colleague. Having more knowledge (or knowing more of some aspect you don't have even any idea) could never hurt. Even if you don't understand Machine Learning at all, reading article about ML won't hurt you, it will only takes probably 1-5 minutes. Stay thirsty for new thing and you will always be able to keep up, but still stay within your limit and don't exhaust yourself out of your curiousity.

I like being ?? in tune with market demands! I always look at job openings and technical requirements to prepare myself as if I were going to face a selection process. This ends up updating me a lot about technologies and directing me on what I should study.?? Sometimes I even involve other people in projects so we can improve our knowledge together! ??

What a silly question. They are ALWAYS evolving. A better question would be "What would you do to change your job if you were stuck in a role where you never need to learn"

A Software Developer today must have also skills in the usual UML for requirements analysis, in tools for data analysis such as Power BI and SQL, in BI Tools such as SAP, and in languages such as JAVA for mobile apps, Swift for IoS apps and for IoT, C# for games, Python for Machine Learning and Automation, and Javascript for most of the above plus for flying robots. There could be other programming languages besides these, but these are the most commonly used by modern developers.

If your skills are becoming outdated, then it means that you are only focused on maintaining solutions you already developed and are not adding or updating your solutions with new features or developing new solutions. Check what additions you feel can be implemented, assess your user needs, and based on that, you'll find that there's plenty of new apps and new features that you can develop that can make benefit of new APIs, because your user needs will be based on what new functionalities they see in other apps. Then, just start building those, and you'll be more than familiar with all those new APIs that you were ignoring before, and you'll find that you're catching up by the time you are finished with all the new apps and additions.
