Make an alternative plan in case you do not receive the salary that you were expecting. This doesn't always mean "don't accept the job". It could mean that you plan on staying in this position for X amount of months/years and get the most out of any training sessions, seminars, etc. that the company offers. Doing so, will add experience and knowledge on your CV which will improve your chances of higher paying jobs.

If you have made a good impression, and proved your worth, then best thing is to convey your concerns. Always be tactful, go for a practical higher bargain. Then settle at a middle level that both are satisfied. And always show your gratitude for having considered. But always be ready to tactfully handle any bad turn in events. They might humiliate, laugh or be arrogant. It should be worth the effort. On the other hand we all regret the chances we never took right folks!!

Some positions may not offer the pay that you were hoping for, however, they may allow you to grow your career in areas you wouldn't have access to at other companies. i.e. pharmacovigilance, drug distribution, etc. Use this to your advantage and gain as much knowledge as you're able to. This could further improve your career trajectory.

Cuando asesoro a un profesional científico-tecnológico en materia de negociación salarial, ya sea en la fase del proceso de selección o bien durante su etapa en la empresa, siempre aconsejo estudiar guías salariales acreditadas, como la de Michael Page o Hays. Se trata de estudios anuales muy reconocidos, que categorizan las distintas posiciones en función de su nivel (junior o senior), sector de actividad económica (no es lo mismo una multinacional farmacéutica que una start up biotech) y localización geográfica. De esta manera, se puede conocer cuál es el rango retributivo esperable sobre la base de un documento de referencia contrastado con datos reales del mercado laboral, lo cual constituye un argumento muy sólido para negociar.
