Rather than turn the negotiation into confrontation, seek to understand the "why" behind the other person's position. By asking a set of progressive questions to dig deeper into the assumptions and beliefs held by the other person, you can identify the best way to reframe the discussion and subtly lead them to a range of options that meets their needs, but better meets yours. This framing exercise allows them to believe they are in control, while ensuring any option they select actually works well for you too.
